About Uniiverse

Uniiverse is an exciting startup building a disrupting technology. Our vision is to encourage real-life interactions within today’s increasingly virtual world. We are creating a platform that will enable the sharing economy and allow people to share and discover activities and services near them.

We are seeking a talented Software Developer to lead the development of core elements of our platform. You are a product person, and love to build things. You've got technical chops but have a keen eye for design, UI and UX.

Responsibilities

Own product sprints for front and back-end build-out of Uniiverse's technology platform, e.g.:

  • Thought partner and shape design and functionality of our product
  • Drive development of back-end technology (e.g. billing systems, proprietary recommendation algorithms)
  • Lead development of key front-end functionality (e.g. calendarization, jQuery widgets, etc.)
  • Implement analytics, tools, and admin panels
  • Build test cases in parallel to development, design and implement A/B testing environments

Technologies we love

  • Ruby on Rails + MongoDB
  • JavaScript / jQuery; AJAX / JSON
  • HTML5 / CSS3 + HAML / SASS

Requirements

  • Driven, motivated and committed to building great things
  • Keen eye for clean, simple design aesthetics, and UX
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails 3
  • Experience in JavaScript, jQuery, HTML and CSS (HAML and SASS)
  • Familiar with MongoDB, Linux, Amazon Web Services (AWS), OAuth, Facebook Graph API
  • Excited about BDD, automated deployment, fixing bugs, and shipping code
  • An independent, fast-learning, self starter who takes ownership over solving problems
  • Energetic, passionate (does not matter about what!), and driven
  • Believes strongly in The Joel Test

Bonus if you are...

  • Exposure to in mobile development (iOS / Objective-C)
  • Exposure to machine learning / natural language processing / recommendation algorithms
  • Hosting a design review lunch hour on Uniiverse

The role

Uniiverse is looking for Marketing and Social Media interns for the Summer of 2012. We believe everyone has something extraordinary to offer and share. And we need your help!

Your main objective will be to drive-up Uniiverse’s supply-side engagement. You will be doing a lot of different things (we promise you won’t get bored!) including:

  • Online marketing - organize Facebook contests, sending viral Tweets, writing blogs and articles
  • Street and guerilla marketing - we can’t tell you too much about this for now, but get ready to be part of some fun, creative and innovative campaigns
  • Event leadership - you will organize and attend activities / parties (we will even pay for the supplies!), take pictures and videos and submit them on our Vimeo and Tumblr
  • Community engagement - you will connect and help current users
  • And a lot more...

You should be

  • A people person
  • Highly motivated and driven
  • Eager to learn
  • Strong social media presence on Facebook and Twitter
  • Bonus: brownie points if you are offing an activity or service on Uniiverse
